The distinction is given to critical care nursing teams who demonstrate top patient outcomes, strong collaboration with other units, a healthy work environment and best-in-class nursing practices.

AACN’s chief nursing officer Connie Barden praised the “grit, determination and passion” of Community Regional’s nurses: “You hit the bullseye for how we measure excellence,” she said in a congratulatory video.
“This is outstanding work by our team,” said Danny Davis, Chief Clinical and Operations Officer for Community Health System. He also thanked other teams and disciplines within the hospital and, in particular, Community’s neuroscience doctors, for their support and collaboration. “And what’s even more remarkable is this pursuit of excellence was accomplished while normalizing processes after the pandemic and growing neurological services.”
This is the second recent distinction for Community Regional’s neurological services. In October 2023, the hospital was recognized by The Joint Commission as an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center.
Community Regional is the only hospital in Fresno to be recognized for this advanced level of stroke care and the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in the five county region (Fresno, Madera, Merced, Kings and Tulare counties).
A Comprehensive Stroke Center cares for all types of patients, treating the most complex stroke cases — including bleeding (or hemorrhagic) strokes and ischemic strokes, as well as offering 24/7 access to a team of on-site neurosurgical experts.
