To honor his decades of service and years of philanthropic support, the neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) at both Community Regional Medical Center and Clovis Community Medical Center will be renamed the “Rajani Family NICU” in honor of Dr. Krishnakumar (Krishna) Rajani.

A renowned physician, Dr. Rajani has dedicated his career to providing care to countless infants in the NICU and their families. He played a pivotal role in establishing Community Regional’s NICU, the largest Level III NICU in the Central Valley.

“In 2008, we were sending more than 400 babies away for a higher level of neonatal care. I saw that Community prioritized keeping mothers and babies together, and I knew I could make a difference for those families,” said Dr. Rajani.

Under his leadership, the neonatal intensive care unit at Community Regional grew from a level II facility with 19 perpetually full beds to a level III facility with more than 80 beds. Combined with its trauma services, high-risk antepartum unit and level III NICU, Community Regional cares for some of the most critically premature infants and mothers with high-risk pregnancies.

“We are incredibly grateful for Dr. Rajani’s leadership of both NICUs,” said Craig Wagoner, President & CEO of Community Health System. “His unwavering dedication not only enhances Community’s programs and services, but also inspires our entire team.”

A commitment to giving back

In addition to his years as a neonatologist, Dr. Rajani and his wife, Gita Rajani, have consistently demonstrated their commitment to philanthropy. They've supported various Community programs as well as staff education and training through the Rajani Family NICU scholarship.

“On top of the incredible work he does every day, caring for some of the smallest and most medically fragile infants, Dr. and Mrs. Rajani have always been gracious and generous supporters of Community. We are so grateful for their support,” said Katie Zenovich, Senior Vice President, Development and External Affairs and Chief Fund Development Officer.
