Community Medical Centers offers the da Vinci Surgical System^® – a minimally invasive robotic technology that's an alternative to traditional open surgery (through one large incision) and conventional laparoscopy.

This advanced surgical robot makes it possible to treat a broader range of conditions using a minimally invasive technique with enhanced vision, accuracy, dexterity and precision than is possible with traditional approaches. 

Benefits of robotic surgery

When compared with other types of surgery, robotic surgery patients have fewer complications, less pain, scarring, blood loss, need for narcotic pain medication and shorter hospital stays. These benefits help patients return to their normal, daily activities faster.

How robotic surgery works

Robotic-assisted surgery puts a surgeon’s hands at the controls of a leading-edge robotic platform. The da Vinci Surgical System uses advanced robotic, computer and optical technology to assist the surgeon, but the robot does not act on its own. Its movements are controlled by the surgeon.
 

During robotic surgery, the surgeon operates from a console next to the operating room table. With the help of a specialized surgical team, the surgeon begins by making several small incisions where the robotic arms are inserted.

These arms have small surgical instruments which bend and rotate. One arm has a high-definition (HD), three dimensional (3D) endoscopic camera inside, and it continuously transmits real-time, magnified HD images to the screen in the surgeon’s surgical console.

This gives the surgeon a close-up view of the surgical area. Da Vinci technology then translates the surgeon’s hand movements into smaller, precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body.

Clovis Community Medical Center is the first hospital between Sacramento and Los Angeles with the da Vinci^® Xi Robot – the most advanced da Vinci Surgical System technology currently available. This advanced robot does complicated surgery involving multiple areas of the body without the robot being repositioned.

Clovis Community also is home to the Single-Site da Vinci^® robot (Si). Used mainly for gallbladder disease and hysterectomy surgeries, the surgeon operates through one small incision in the patient’s belly button, leaving virtually no scar after recovery.

Community Regional Medical Center was one of the first hospitals in California to offer the da Vinci^® Surgical System. It’s used for prostatectomy, hysterectomy, pelvic prolapse (sacrocolpopexy), and Single-Site™ da Vinci® Surgery for Gallbladder Disease (cholecystectomy).
