Terry’s House, located directly across the street from Community Regional Medical Center, is a “home away from home” for families of critical care patients. It's a place where they can eat, sleep and recharge, helping them to stay strong and close to their loved one in the hospital.
Helping families when they need it most
On August 23, 2022, Netzer and Sagit Peled received a call that their 25-year-old son, Gev, was in a terrible hiking accident in Yosemite, over 7,500 miles away from their home in Israel.
Gev’s injuries were severe. His fall broke nearly every bone in his face. A stranger found him unconscious, and he was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, the only Level I Trauma Center between Los Angeles and Sacramento.
Netzer and Sagit were driven by one thought — they needed to get to their son. Within 24 hours, they arrived with only the bare essentials. They were in a foreign country with no place to stay and limited funds.
Netzer and Sagit were provided a room at Terry’s House. “Because Terry’s House is so close, we could focus every waking minute on Gev’s recovery,” said Netzer. What started as a place to eat and sleep quickly became a second home for the Peleds. Being able to share the ups and downs with other families in similar situations helped them cope.
“It’s not a hotel,” said Sagit. “It’s a home — and it’s the people who make it so special. I wish every hospital, all over the world, could have a Terry’s House.”
