The event, which included more than 25 departments, introduced aspiring nurses to career opportunities with Community.

“We’re excited to bring this event back after the first event in March 2020. Our plan is to make it a twice-a-year opportunity for local students and educators to get to know us better,” said Mary Warwick, director of talent acquisition for Community Health System.

Interacting with Community’s top nursing team members

Representatives from cardiovascular, emergency, home health and other departments hosted interactive booths where students talked one-on-one about their career goals and what would make them successful additions to departments that fit their areas of interest.

Community’s vice presidents of nursing mingled with students and hosted open Q&A sessions discussing everything from how to be successful as a new nurse and nursing scholarships to what benefits and support Community provides its team members.

Students shared their reasons for coming to the event and for approaching a healthcare career, citing an interest to learn more about Community Health System — especially those outside of the immediate Fresno/Clovis area — and saying that financial stability, job growth and a desire to “come forward post-COVID” were reasons to start their nursing careers.

Other interactive activities during the event included a scavenger hunt where candidates could win gift cards for scrubs and a stethoscope, a visit from one of Community’s emotional support canines, charcuterie cups and more!

Community’s externship program helps student nurses gain confidence and hands-on experience
